| Lime juice is an excellent for weight reduction. It has a sedative effect on the nerves. Fresh juice of lime and a tsp of honey mixed in a glassful of water should be taken every morning on an empty stomach for obesity. This reduces weight in two or three months’ time.
* Drinking a glass of buttermilk early in the morning to which a tsp of lemon juice is added, casts off your sloth, peps you up and energizes you to go on with your chores with increased zest and vigor.
* Lemon is considered beneficial in the treatment of digestive disorders. A teaspoon of fresh lime juice should be mixed with equal quantity of honey. It should be licked to stop bilious vomiting, indigestion, burning sensation in the chest and excessive accumulation of saliva in the mouth. A teaspoon of lime juice mixed with water and a pinch of soda-bicarbonate makes an excellent remedy for acidity.
* If you tend to burp after a heavy meal, make a habit of taking 1 tsp of lemon juice twice a day.
* Adding 1 tsp of honey to 2 tsp of lemon juice along with a few crystals of black salt helps to stop hiccups.
* A well known folk remedy to cure diarrhea is to squeeze half a lemon in goat’s milk and drink it.
* When you are feeling nauseous, mix equal quantities (say about 1 tsp each) of lemon juice and ghee and have it. For giddiness accompanied by vomiting squeeze half a lemon in warm water. Add a ½ tsp cumin (jeera) seeds and a pinch of cardamom (elaichi) powder to get relief.
* As the juice of fresh lime is a rich source of vitamin C, it is valuable in the prevention and treatment of scurvy. In ancient times it has saved the lives of innumerable crews of ocean going vessels from this disease.
* This fruit is ideal for all types of fevers and colds, if taken well-diluted. Vitamin C- rich lime juice increases resistance, reduces toxicity and cuts down the course of illness. A glass of diluted lime juice prepared in warm water, to which a teaspoon of honey is added, is an ideal remedy for cold and dry cough.
* You can even add 1-2 tsp lemon juice to steaming hot tea and drink it to get relief from cold.
* For malarial fevers, adding a tsp of lemon juice to one tsp of onion juice and taking it thrice a day provides tremendous relief.
* A fresh lime squeezed in a glass of warm water, with two teaspoons of honey and a quarter teaspoon of common salt, should be sipped slowly. It is found to provide relief in cases of tonsillitis. | |
