GM recalls 5,000 vans over engine fire risk

Detroit, Mar 28: General Motors Co is recalling about 5,000 heavy duty vans built in Feb and Mar because of a risk of engine fire, company has said.

GM said in a notice on Friday, Mar 26, promised to halt production and sale of the vehicles until it can fix a faulty alternator.


GM asked customers who purchased the vans to stop driving them, park them outside away from buildings and other vehicles and to disconnect both battery cables if possible.

"Light duty Express and Savana vans use a different alternator and were not under a production halt," GM said.

The recall models include the Chevrolet Express 2010, GMC Savana Passenger and cargo vans. The GM recall also covers the 2500, three quarter ton, 3500, one ton and series vans.
