Surveys show generation technology misconception in use of laptops
The younger generations are often thought of as being the most tech savvy. However Baby Boomers are actually slightly more likely than likely to be a laptop user than their offspring.
Two recent studies uncovered the surprising cultural misconception that Boomers shy away from new technology.
Randstad USA and Harris Interactive, two well-respected pollsters, discovered Baby Boomers are 3 percent more likely to use a laptop for work than Generation X.
Even more astonishing, Baby Boomers are 18 percent more likely to use a laptop at work than Generation Y.
Although the surveys did not address frequency of use or effectiveness of use they did remind us of the foolishness of judging by stereotypes.
Generations X and Y are thought of as being the most tech savvy. This is especially true with Gen Y where Facebook and You Tube can quickly eat up hours of time.
It is understandable that the youngest generation, the Millennial Generation, would use laptops less as their generation is becoming accustomed to accessing the Internet through their cell phones.
We know blanket stereotyping leads to wrong conclusions about individuals. These surveys also prove cultural, and generational, stereotyping is often wrong when applied to an entire generation.
